Turkey cooks quickly, making this a practical weeknight version of the American sandwich.
Ingredients
- 500 g ground turkey
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 1 green bell pepper, finely diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 180 ml tomato ketchup
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp mustard
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp oil
- 4 burger buns
Step-by-step method
- Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium heat and cook onion and bell pepper for 4–5 minutes.
- Add garlic and stir for 30 seconds, then add the turkey.
- Break the turkey apart and cook for 6–7 minutes until no pink remains and excess moisture has evaporated.
- Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard and brown sugar.
- Reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes until the sauce is thick enough to sit in a bun without running out.
- Taste and adjust with a pinch of salt or a splash of water if the mixture is too thick.
- Toast the buns lightly, spoon in the hot turkey mixture and serve immediately.
